Vintage Mexican Folk Dresses - An Old Favourite!


For as long as they have been in fashion (like forever!!) I have always loved Mexican folk dresses... I've bought a few over the years but sadly the fit has been wrong and while I have every intention of having them adjusted to fit, I never get around to it and so they sit in the cupboard unused... 

Here are some sweet examples that I'm loving.. my wish list includes a white kaftan inspired cheesecloth dress with a smocked waist and hand embroidered flowers in navy blue and red... oh and two long strings coming from the neckline each ending with a tassle.

    I love them too Tina and have just bought a vintage one from an etsy shop in the states, I'll let you know if I'm happy with it when it arrives...
    Anth's Dad holiday's in Mexico every year, a couple of years ago I sent pics to him and his wife and asked them to buy me some. Not long later a massive parcel arrived - I was so excited, but when I opened it every single dress (and there were quite a few!) was huge (I'd asked them to get the smallest size?!) They were all beautiful, but I couldn't wear them (there was room inside for another three or four people!) I was very disappointed, I ended up giving them all to a girl I worked with - who loved them...I felt I couldn't say anything to Anth's Dad without appearing rude.
    Another long note from me! Sorry, it's just I seem to have little stories about most of the stuff you write about x

      Another great story Kylie!. The excitement of receiving your dresses from Mexico and then finding they fit just like a muumuu is exactly what I've gone through time and time again and I should add I'm no tiny creature that is for sure!!... we must be wanting the vintage versions inspired by Mexican folk dresses rather then traditional cut, don't you think?? I would love to hear how you go on etsy ... I think there was an abba album cover where Anni-Fred wears one I love - if only she'd ebay or etsy it for me!.

      OMG Pippa after posting this my sister sent a text saying exactly the same thing... when I inevitably buy the next dress and leave it hanging around the cupboard again I will certainly send it your way!! xx Tina
