Based in Melbourne Australia, I love to collect vintage thrift and charity store gems decorating my house with an eclectic mix of items whether it be industrial, retro, mid century, french provincial or shabby chic vintage and antique items and this blog is a "storybook" of my vintage finds, DIY craft endeavours, tributes to iconic designers of the past with a few cooking bits and pieces thrown in.vintagemovementhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16689037332749472321noreply@blogger.comBlogger246125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2510038232044204103.post-12176693269326471492015-02-13T11:04:00.000+11:002015-02-13T11:04:00.082+11:00Unearthing Dulux Colour Trends For 2015Last year I was honoured and thrilled to have won a runner up prize in Dulux's <a href="http://www.dulux.com.au/specifier/colour/colour-forecast-2015" target="_blank">2015 Colour Trend</a> Flatlay Competition run through <a href="http://instagram.com/vintagemovement" target="_blank">Instagram</a> and judged by the fabulous and inspiring Heather Nette King and Bree Leech.<br />
<br />
The competition involved creating a flatlay using one or all of the four colour trends Earthworks, Silentshift, Wildland and Modhaus... I submitted an entry for each trend and to my delight my Earthworks flatlay was successful! Today I thought I'd share a few pics I took while creating this visual.<br />
<br />
Earthworks, designed by <a href="http://www.bonnieandneil.com.au/" target="_blank">Bonnie and Neil</a>, is all about celebrating our obsession with indoor greenery, nature, DIY especially in the garden and our desire to know where our food comes from and how it was produced.<br />

I'm 99% gluten, garlic, cane sugar and onion free and I've decided 2015 is all about eliminating the rest one step at a time.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This simple slice isn't Fodmap friendly, due to the dried figs, and the puffed buckwheat means it's not Paleo either but it is gluten, dairy and cane sugar free so it's a start! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxIfEyEfCJVGKSWO1GyQhsQBenlViXz_07qJmzmvNTnE9DJ8zxjH0dueeXM04X9Yp1UiSZnSKdTlA0vqlU0hG_bn7NJXjBEtwQppjFjVMy-X22dttSFBQUjM1VmBm62BVyMaq6A6FIHQ/s1600/slice+7.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxIfEyEfCJVGKSWO1GyQhsQBenlViXz_07qJmzmvNTnE9DJ8zxjH0dueeXM04X9Yp1UiSZnSKdTlA0vqlU0hG_bn7NJXjBEtwQppjFjVMy-X22dttSFBQUjM1VmBm62BVyMaq6A6FIHQ/s1600/slice+7.jpeg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I added a bit more of this and that while mixing this slice so feel free to do so too using the following ingredients. This portion makes enough to fill a small container 10cm x 20cm (you can cut about 6 slices as shown above and store in an air tight container)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the slice:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 cups puffed buckwheat</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5-8 dried figs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10 roasted almonds</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 tablespoon pure cocoa powder</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 tablespoon coconut oil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2 tsp tablespoon almond milk</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 pinch salt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
(optional 1-2 tsp rice malt syrup instead of figs for a fructose free option)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Place all ingredients in the base/bowl attachment of a stick mixer and blend till chopped and smooth. Taste and add any extra ingredients to suit your taste or to achieve a mix that will press and set into the container nicely without being too dry or too wet. Then press into the base of a small lined tin or container.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the chocolate top simply place about 2 tbs of coconut oil and 1 tsp of cocoa with 2 tsp of rice malt syrup in a heatproof bowl and microwave in 30 second bursts till melted and runny. Then spread over the top of the pressed slice and freeze for 30 mins. Slice when set and slightly hardened from the freezer. Store in the fridge.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Thought I'd share some of my favourite buys with you today and some <a href="http://instagram.com/vintagemovement" target="_blank">instagram</a> pics of the week at the same time. I'm generally not very brand focused when I shop. I like great value and max visual impact whether I'm spending $5 or $500 and I get bored with my interior easily and often hunt for new objects to freshen up my look. At the moment I'm on the hunt for some fabulous plates and serving ware which I'll share in another post... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This month I'm loving the following - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUD3DCrUC5E3xoUahiJE69IFkr0zIZBj9e7scRoGj0lA3VtEz3rLVL0StgAz7YuioWLN2piySIBxxCzC2UBf-60fcegHCAkPksX00Iz10H-xkt0YQyEntt0WFPduHV1BgRfn4TZWOQ_w/s1600/insta+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUD3DCrUC5E3xoUahiJE69IFkr0zIZBj9e7scRoGj0lA3VtEz3rLVL0StgAz7YuioWLN2piySIBxxCzC2UBf-60fcegHCAkPksX00Iz10H-xkt0YQyEntt0WFPduHV1BgRfn4TZWOQ_w/s1600/insta+4.jpg" /></a></div>
Pink salt lamp -<br />
My Himalayan pink salt lamp. This beauty not only looks like a big chunk of Rose Quartz, when heated by the flame of a tea light candle, is also said to reduce allergens, moisture and pollutants in the air. It also looks great as part of a coffee table vignette clustered with greenery and books.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh67t3mlcJFimR5OLpic4r0hP78ZkYvVLQJcUKyyW3ZBx-w6_sM42Ju5OwrWlL9uHxhbk6-IY1aWF5szkgk9xCnMIW9BM1DIsvBjUM5cmoR-D1Wt2ptEaIXLVp-zkSZwuJAM6tUto2vxg/s1600/insta+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh67t3mlcJFimR5OLpic4r0hP78ZkYvVLQJcUKyyW3ZBx-w6_sM42Ju5OwrWlL9uHxhbk6-IY1aWF5szkgk9xCnMIW9BM1DIsvBjUM5cmoR-D1Wt2ptEaIXLVp-zkSZwuJAM6tUto2vxg/s1600/insta+6.jpg" /></a></div>
Plywood frame<br />
Born from a botched DIY project these long pieces of timber were nailed together in an attempt to create a frame. $3 a piece at Bunnings, this creation has now become a fabulous display piece in my home for draping foliage and fairy lights.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv2XDIsGWMtdjdw1Rs0T90NZd1QHTWe16Na3hKZDRDGqxTPedArRlvQfyeSHySLmLDHgIThgsNIgEzUUgfHSqZFHXLLD99IVeS2hnNXxm2vADL6dhXOqNe648ckyfuHtM1x0H71fnEBw/s1600/insta+pic+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv2XDIsGWMtdjdw1Rs0T90NZd1QHTWe16Na3hKZDRDGqxTPedArRlvQfyeSHySLmLDHgIThgsNIgEzUUgfHSqZFHXLLD99IVeS2hnNXxm2vADL6dhXOqNe648ckyfuHtM1x0H71fnEBw/s1600/insta+pic+1.jpg" /></a></div>
Wall Decals<br />
I know these wall decals have been around for a while but I honestly I adore them. I'm a renter so they are like the best thing since removable wall hooks! I have <a href="http://walleffect.com.au/" target="_blank">gold and copper decals</a> on my kitchen wall currently and they really add a bit of fun and whimsy to the space.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYyezfYu7lIEGwd5iGbwrl4rWYKzaaICZUwZ-GCSQzjUhd9lxatClYjmrqOUM4K4ab0s3YkTuPd7wkrES_osOi8gsaZs4THs_qiiLio3Sn6LB7hLlRobpC2XDPWDgMToK6KJMSmyn5gg/s1600/insta+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYyezfYu7lIEGwd5iGbwrl4rWYKzaaICZUwZ-GCSQzjUhd9lxatClYjmrqOUM4K4ab0s3YkTuPd7wkrES_osOi8gsaZs4THs_qiiLio3Sn6LB7hLlRobpC2XDPWDgMToK6KJMSmyn5gg/s1600/insta+pic.jpg" /></a></div>
Three favourites in this pic. The gem mirror from <a href="http://www.westelm.com.au/" target="_blank">West Elm</a> - gosh I love this lil beauty. I think I found the last one in Melbourne and I use it as a trivet on my side table.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://homes.ninemsn.com.au/real-living/" target="_blank">Real Living Magazine</a> is the next fave featured here, The colours, the products and the styling - it's all too gorgeous! Definitely a favourite monthly read and source of inspiration.<br />
<br />
Saving the best till last is my leopard print <a href="http://www.michaelkors.com/watches/women/_/N-28c5" target="_blank">Michael Kors Chrono</a> watch. This one is MK-5904 which is an older variation of the MK Bradshaw shape and it works back with so many looks.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
xx</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Enjoy your weekend!</div>

Better late than never - right?Hello again!! Happy New Year xx<br />
<br />
Thrilled to be back kicking of the year with a small recap of my festive season fun. I can't believe we are right into the swing of the 2015 already but I'm looking forward to it and can feel this year will be fab fun! <br />
<br />
I've mentioned this a few times already but my year on <a href="http://instagram.com/vintagemovement" target="_blank">Instagram</a> has really changed my focus. I've met so many amazing creatives over the last few months and spent a lot of time flat laying, styling, prop searching and crafting to keep my feed fresh on the page. <br />
<br />
Instagram also explains the lack of contact made in this space of late which is crazy because I've never had as much visual material to share!<br />
<br />
So here are a few pics from the last few weeks. Today I'm also mixing up a batch of DIY chalk board paint... I know it's been done to death but I adore the look of inky blue/black paint and my fire engine red cabinet really needs a facelift! <br />
<br />

Who doesn't love a bit of whimsy when it comes to Halloween and these cute and simple meringue ghosts will definitely have your guests smiling!<br />
<br />
To make the meringue mixture simply follow <a href="http://vintagemovement.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/simple-meringue-christmas-trees.html" target="_blank">this technique</a> then place the mix into a piping bag fitted with a round tipped nozzle (I used Wilton's 1A nozzle).<br />
<br />
To make the eyes you can use anything you like... raisins, round licorice or black fondant cut into small rounds using the tip of the piping nozzle. Simply melt some white chocolate and use it as "glue" to attach the eyes to the cooled and baked meringues.<br />

You can't go wrong with a simple frosting swirl finished with a central trinket or piece of candy and after hours of searching <a href="http://www.kmart.com.au/" target="_blank">Kmart</a>, <a href="http://www.rejectshop.com.au/" target="_blank">The Reject Shop</a> and <a href="https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/lower-than-low-prices/?pk_campaign=Adwords&pk_kwd=Aldi-Brand-Exact-ALDI" target="_blank">Aldi</a> came up with the goods...<br />
<br />
These cupcakes are a great idea for time poor entertainers this Halloween. You can even use store bought cakes if baking is not your thing!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNvz62QndJ86X73hfq78jy9TTjf6n3QLLC0Al56vyo4JrMbg0KSczwIxthKc3-R4Vze60zUMNyqRq76etORip1U_AjGWCEcTQjh-xB-F4fMPf2EvTsK2YJNrmINXzRhM5L0_5ARYZwpw/s1600/hall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNvz62QndJ86X73hfq78jy9TTjf6n3QLLC0Al56vyo4JrMbg0KSczwIxthKc3-R4Vze60zUMNyqRq76etORip1U_AjGWCEcTQjh-xB-F4fMPf2EvTsK2YJNrmINXzRhM5L0_5ARYZwpw/s1600/hall.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
To complete simply mix up a batch of <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/1058677/buttercream-frosting" target="_blank">butter cream</a> frosting and add orange or green food colouring, then pipe in a circle using a star tipped nozzle and finished with the candy or trinket in the center (just make sure the trinkets are food safe or attach to a toothpick and place on top).<br />

I loved the show last year and Choc Corn was the only product I tried during the competitive rounds. After last nights show I knew I had to try <a href="http://tenplay.com.au/channel-ten/recipe-to-riches/photos/episode-1-baking#3" target="_blank">AJ Mills</a> gorgeous creations because in my book sour cherries and chocolate are a match made in heaven!!!<br />
<br />
So let's get down to the review...<br />
<br />
This is a frozen cookie dough stored in the freezer aisle. Having read many tips on good biscuit baking I knew resting and freezing dough before baking were two "bakers secrets" worth knowing so the product had a big tick in my book from the get go... the chocolate cherry cookie combo was another big tick BUT after many years of baking my own cakes I recently baked a store bought cake mix and boy was I shocked by the awful taste - they really are nasty. So I was kind of expecting the same mass produced chemical taste from this bake-at-home product but before I talk about the taste let's look at the packaging, product and how to.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The directions are as simple as pre heat your oven, place on a baking tray and bake for 12 mins! I love the no fuss no mess approach... once these guys cool they are crispy around the edges and soft in the center. The biscuit isn't oozing with chocolate but the ratio is just right and the contrast with the sour cherries is delish. They really don't taste mass produced either, you could definitely pass them off as home made... for my money dried sour cherries for a chewy texture would have been gorgeous but that's being super fussy. Overall Mrs Mills Easy Bake is really delicious and well worth the win!!!<br />

I I love stumbling across an amazing <a href="http://www.cushandco.com.au/shop/" target="_blank">online business</a> who know their style, take on the big brands and own their corner of the market. Melbourne's <a href="http://www.cushandco.com.au/" target="_blank">Cush & Co</a> is most definitely a prime example of one of those brands.<br />

Founded in 2012 with the aim of sourcing fabulous furnishings at great prices the Cush & Co team offer a beautiful range and it's no surprise their hand crafted <a href="http://www.cushandco.com.au/shop/product-category/moroccan-poufs/" target="_blank">Moroccan Leather Poufs</a> lead me straight to them while perusing <a href="http://instagram.com/cushandco" target="_blank">Instagram</a>.<br />
<br />
I was thrilled and delighted when the team re-posted one of my <a href="http://instagram.com/p/qGv8brzfyk/?modal=true" target="_blank">pics</a> a few months ago and was over the moon when Clare approached me for an interview featured <a href="http://www.cushandco.com.au/interview-vintage-movement/" target="_blank">here</a> on their blog - blushing!!<br />

Pillows and ottomans are one of the simplest ways to update and enhance your interior without overhauling the lot... I recently added a caramel leather pouf to my living room and it is like a little work of art. Hand stitched with silk threads and just the right amount of boho chic - love it!</div>

I love eBay and have bought many second hand and vintage bits and pieces for my home through the site and as soon as I stumbled across this vintage Chanel poster I had to make it mine! It is very similar to the style and size featured on <a href="http://www.theblockshop.com.au/">The Block</a> last year and my husband and I tried building our own frame using wooden moulding and custom cut perspex but it was a total fail so we sent it the be professionally framed.<br />
<br />
Today marks the posters homecoming from the framers and at 1.2 x 1.6 metres it is without doubt the largest framed work I own to date - can't wait to see how it looks! I chose a lime washed flat edged wooden frame similar to the <a href="http://hardtofind.com.au/blog/2013/07/parisian-chic-vs-french-provincial/" target="_blank">image</a> top right (below).<br />

Hollywood regency, Palm Springs chic & mid-century glamour are some of the first things I think of when it comes to designing my ideal drinks room. Here are some of my finds...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaxVNFxWWSW93s2BPX29SVKjQTVGxpk3u29fT4p-EBO8Ohyphenhyphen8mO8RveSjfRnEEyI3hcEtBDG_U7ugOGPqO7vEtXCxEwIgq6QFjW16bgEh24vCbNoLG8yYJtDNBDp0oGgajfXrzyQ8mCFw/s1600/bar+brass+chairish+high.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaxVNFxWWSW93s2BPX29SVKjQTVGxpk3u29fT4p-EBO8Ohyphenhyphen8mO8RveSjfRnEEyI3hcEtBDG_U7ugOGPqO7vEtXCxEwIgq6QFjW16bgEh24vCbNoLG8yYJtDNBDp0oGgajfXrzyQ8mCFw/s1600/bar+brass+chairish+high.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm totally obsessed with brass and glass vintage furniture at the moment and anything with faux bamboo features or lucite components are my faves. Chairish had a number of amazing bits and pieces that fit the bill and if my budget was endless I would have bought the lot! </div>

One great thing is it gives us a chance to try a few sweet treats along the way and last month I popped down to <a href="http://adrianozumbo.com/locations/patisserie-melbourne.html" target="_blank">Adriano Zumbo's</a> salon in South Yarra. I love how real and humble he seems - total dessert genius but you could imagine he's quite a cool and collected character in real life... so I wanted to do his sweets justice by serving them on "le plat du jour" by <a href="http://douglasandhope.bigcartel.com/product/lucas-grogan-plate" target="_blank">Lucas Grogan</a> and <a href="http://douglasandhope.bigcartel.com/" target="_blank">Douglas & Hope</a>... <a href="http://douglasandhope.bigcartel.com/product/anya-brock-budgie-plate" target="_blank">Anya Brock</a> I totally have my sites set on your budgie plate too!<br />

I am a bargain hunter from way back when. Whether I'm spending $5 or $1500 I have to get value for money. I think it goes back to my days in wholesale fashion - once you see the cost price of an item it becomes hard to pay retail at big chain stores. With the exception of handmade, local or ethically produced merch I lurve buying cheap, functional bits of pieces - I think it's the committed thrifter within.<br />
<br />
I spotted this planter on <a href="http://instagram.com/vintagemovement" target="_blank">Instagram</a> last week and went straight to 24 hour <a href="http://www.kmart.com.au/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10701&catalogId=10102&categoryId=251173&orderBy=5" target="_blank">Kmart</a> and bought two in turquoise. $6.50 is my idea of an out right crazy bargain. Such a useful buy... perfect for my house plants!<br />

I certainly haven't stopped thrifting by any means and this was one of those finds that had my heart pumping! It was also quite literally one of those trash to treasure purchases after the previous owners found them in the garden of their new bayside Melbourne property. A moment of clarity resulted in listing the pair for sale on eBay after initially thinking they would simply end up on the hard rubbish pile.<br />

I love vintage <a href="http://www.robertgordonaustralia.com/robertgordonaustralia/odette-swan-planter.html" target="_blank">swan figurines</a> and a pair of concrete pots were at the top of my wish list. There are a few chips here and there and they have been painted white but they are an original, large mid century set and I just adore them!<br />

From <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/534872893217600490/" target="_blank">pot plant stands</a> to <a href="http://insideoutstyle.com.au/shop/cabo-rectangular-concrete-coffee-table/" target="_blank">coffee tables</a> concrete has ventured beyond flooring and counter tops and found its way to my heart! While perusing pinterest recently I found this cute DIY tutorial via <a href="http://gedane.over-blog.com/article-diy-et-tuto-etoile-en-beton-109284739.html" target="_blank">Gedane</a> and I wanted to share my own version.<br />
<br />
If you haven't mixed concrete before it's super simple, just add water, mix to a cake batter-ish consistency pour and leave to set! The best thing about this little DIY is that you can achieve the cement rendered look in any shape or size without needing a mold.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcADQAX850S2RwDWc4yQs3LI9LyYs1LwyWmiIewZnIxIoFRlcgvMeSF7Wi4m1MxRaaflfmF4PEGEPS-lUnT9unFaeJMRUeBQjoZsQg8HDciDaqu0CRaxh-CtBbJEj-dLsaM3SJtkmz1A/s1600/let+c+6+f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcADQAX850S2RwDWc4yQs3LI9LyYs1LwyWmiIewZnIxIoFRlcgvMeSF7Wi4m1MxRaaflfmF4PEGEPS-lUnT9unFaeJMRUeBQjoZsQg8HDciDaqu0CRaxh-CtBbJEj-dLsaM3SJtkmz1A/s1600/let+c+6+f.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
To make your own sponge soaked cement cutout you will need:<br />
Cement (small bag)<br />
Scissors<br />
Marking Pen (optional)<br />
Bucket (for the cement mix)<br />
Sponge (preferably not less then 1/2-1 inch thick)<br />
Baking paper (to lay your soaked sponge shapes)<br />
<br />
1. Start by cutting your sponge shapes. You can use a template marked out on your sponge as a guide<br />
2. Mix cement and water in your bucket to the correct consistency<br />
3. Dip your sponge cuts outs in the cement and soak<br />
4. Lightly wring out leaving a veil of cement over the outside of the sponge piece<br />
5. Leave to dry lying down<br />

<br />
First a super quick recap. In May myself and 7 fellow designers were charged with the task of re-loving an unwanted piece of furniture using <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/" target="_blank">Feast Watson</a> products. On July 24th these items will be auctioned on eBay with the proceeds going to <a href="http://salvosstores.salvos.org.au/" target="_blank">Salvos Stores</a>. Feast Watson are also covering the shipping costs within Australia!<br />
<br />
I love shopping, upcycling and selling goodies on eBay so every part of this project has been fabulous fun.<br />
<br />
As we know I started with this old pallet table and tripod...<br />

This project involved three separate but simple DIYs using three Feast Watson products and a dash of Dulux. You can create these looks using any coffee table or flat timber surface, wood based lamp and drum shade.<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">
1. Start by preparing your frame and table top for
painting by sanding all surfaces.</span><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;"> </span></span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">2. In order to paint your table frame you will need to
block out and protect the table top. To do this simply
tape around your table top with painters tape.</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">
</span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">3. Using Dulux Metalshield in Black (satin finish) paint
your frame then leave to dry over night before adding a
second coat and leave to completely dry for 1-2 days.</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;"> </span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">4. To create the patterned table top start by lime washing
the timber using FW Liming White Stain and Varnish
(gloss). You will need to do at least 3-5 coats depending
on the colour of your timber and the effect you want to
achieve. For this project I used 5 coats spaced out by no
less then 3 hours each time. (if using FW Liming White you
may only need to do 1-2 coats).</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;"> </span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">5. When your lime wash is set and at the level of opacity
you desire it's time to gently sand the top to increase
the milky weathered look. I needed to do this as my timber
was quite warm. This seemed to calm down the red tones and
enhance the lime wash.</span></h2>
<h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTpLXOvtvqj74ftZa8QVLqpF7KI5ymPudQcnmsCW_rf7_vQLPHiuqnzpH2Q4ZGgsWhg5GzKOQ65waJlDoa98uCG80fk0u2PO0Lb0VMT5xKJfTXsdjHqI9hmEhg4xR4EQ9fZQCRa-FZaA/s1600/top+table+collage+fw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTpLXOvtvqj74ftZa8QVLqpF7KI5ymPudQcnmsCW_rf7_vQLPHiuqnzpH2Q4ZGgsWhg5GzKOQ65waJlDoa98uCG80fk0u2PO0Lb0VMT5xKJfTXsdjHqI9hmEhg4xR4EQ9fZQCRa-FZaA/s1600/top+table+collage+fw.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">
6. To create the chevron patterned top we firstly need to
tape and block out the pattern. You can do this by eye or
by measuring and taping at precise points. The easiest
place to start in order to create this pattern is to make
a large crisscross across the table by taping from one
corner to the other on both sides of the table top.</span><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">
(if you are measuring the taping points measure the length
and width of the table and find the center point. Lightly
mark this point and then crisscross the tape meeting at
this point. Once this is done you are then basically
creating two evenly spaced graduating triangles within
each of the four blank triangular spaces you have just
created). I used 2" painters tape with 2" gaps between
each triangle. I found it was best to tape each section
with triangles directly underneath one another almost as if you are taping a parquetry
style flooring pattern. Then once you have blocked out
each section with taped triangles remove every other
triangle starting with the first (please make sure to
leave the large cross cross taped firmly in place). </span><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;"> </span></span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">7. Apply FW Liming White Stain and Varnish Danish Dust
(satin) to the blank spaces on the table top. I used two
coats with 3-4 hours gap between coats.</span></span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">
8. When the Lime wash has dried carefully peel back the
painters tape (don't worry if some of the stain comes away
with the tape it adds to the character)</span></span></h2>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">
9. For a rustic look you could sand the top. I chose to
leave it as is and finished with a coat of FW Clear
Varnish Gloss. Using a small painters brush apply the
varnish in long even strokes in the same direction. It's
best to do this in a dust and bug free environment to
ensure nothing sticks to the varnish during the drying
process. Leave to dry for 24 hours. Please note this step
will lessen the milky lime wash white finish slightly.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;">Drum lamp shade (I used a thrifted shade for this project)</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;">The clam shell lampshade was created using thin, flexible, wood veneer off cuts hot glued to an old beige drum shade
in even rows. If you have trouble finding wood veneer you
could also use sticky bark sheets found at larger art
supply stores which can then be tinted with timber stains.

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">1. In order to shape
your veneer pieces begin by creating a template as a
guide. To do this I basically cut a rectangle with a
curved half moon edge on one side. My template was approx
2"wide x 3"long.<br /><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">2. Cut your veneer clams. I used approx 100 veneer cut
outs for this project.<br /><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">3. Choose a few pieces and tint with a coat of Danish
Dust. Leave to dry (they may curl initially but will
return the their original shape when dry)<br /><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">4. Apply the veneer pieces in rows by starting at the base
of the shade working up. The first step is to decide the
length of overhang you would like at the base of the
shade. This creates a nice scolloped edge. I chose an
overhang of approx 3cm at the base.
<br /><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">5. Given the length of the overhang ie. 3cm apply your
first row of clams with this overhang using a hot glue gun
and applying a thin line across the top of the veneer
piece and half way down each side. As a guide you can
measure the length of your clam shells minus your overhang
and lightly mark a line across the shade at this point
(this will serve as your guide for gluing your first row).<br /><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;">6. At this point measure the remaining uncovered height of
the lampshade and divide by 4. At each of these four
heights a new row can be glued.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Note: I did a practice
run before gluing the veneer using blu tac. Prior to
gluing I also laid out 5 rows of the veneer pieces to
ensure the colours were mixed and varied before gluing.
Consider the front view when choosing your veneer pieces
prior to gluing. </span> </span></div>

A big thanks to Feast Watson for including me in their Re-love Project for 2014. I have loved every minute of it! My fellow participants have produced jaw dropping <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/consumer/get-inspired/re-love-project/re-love-designers-2014/" target="_blank">transformations</a> with their chosen pieces and I can't wait to see the full reveal on the 24th of July!!</div>

Truth be told I'm terrible at keeping secrets and we all want to see how the <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/consumer/get-inspired/re-love-project/re-love-designers-2014/" target="_blank">pallet table and rusty old tripod</a> revamp went - do we not?! So while I set the date for my <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/" target="_blank">Feast Watson</a> reveal party here is a little of what I've been up to and a mini peak at the finished product...<br />

<br />
My mum found these round cork boards at an op shop but I remember seeing a similar DIY in Real Living some time ago using embroidery hoops and Avskild cork mats from <a href="http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/10281655/" target="_blank">Ikea</a> which you can simply trace around and cut into a circle in order to complete this project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh59lF9O0nSvKx2OhFb_eqN4KaUtRzraPGHigARBLTiFVoX6vzxiyVw46KD14gJ_IJXndSTY22x6dShq0PlGfXZb8eQaU-XWURriRTUCSqroMCU3zwwzpgiwE2pbsugrPOV9JW5asyr6w/s1600/colk+77+f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh59lF9O0nSvKx2OhFb_eqN4KaUtRzraPGHigARBLTiFVoX6vzxiyVw46KD14gJ_IJXndSTY22x6dShq0PlGfXZb8eQaU-XWURriRTUCSqroMCU3zwwzpgiwE2pbsugrPOV9JW5asyr6w/s1600/colk+77+f.jpg" /></a></div>
You will need:<br />
Cork Boards<br />
Paint or spray paint in two colours<br />
Stippling sponge to create the polka dot pattern<br />
Masking tape<br />
<br />
1.To make the geo painted board simple tape in half and spray or paint one side<br />
2. When that is dry tape a line across the painted side skimming the edge as shown below and then place another piece of tape horizontally about a third of the way up to create a triangle shape then paint with your contrasting colour and that is it!.<br />
<br />
For the polka dot board simple take your paint covered stippling brush and stamp your dots around the board.<br />

My sawdust strewn pad is gearing up for some creative DIY'ing over the next week and I wanted to share some of my inspirations and ideas in the lead up to revealing my up-cycled coffee table and tripod as part of Feast Watson's 2014 Re-love Project. If you haven't checked out the line up for this year you can find all the details <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/consumer/get-inspired/re-love-project/re-love-designers-2014/">here</a>.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For those new to <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/" target="_blank">Feast Watson</a>, they offer a fab selection of wood finishes, treatments and paints... you know those floor boards you see in interiors like this - yep, they provide it all!.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiabKi-obN_zdruI28gytz1amv9Q5hRvl5rjRlYDC-FSZILQKSFFCq6EcIMb1rrcDFAWIgPIWW7gkCy_D90NMjNEKiWPuCdK8h16kjTeTjJSU_QQ1ugsV1Vtt66bukRuHE37ba3ByDXPw/s1600/dark-or-light1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiabKi-obN_zdruI28gytz1amv9Q5hRvl5rjRlYDC-FSZILQKSFFCq6EcIMb1rrcDFAWIgPIWW7gkCy_D90NMjNEKiWPuCdK8h16kjTeTjJSU_QQ1ugsV1Vtt66bukRuHE37ba3ByDXPw/s1600/dark-or-light1.jpg" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So, as introduced last week these are my chosen pieces. The tripod is an old telescope stand... it's a bit rusty and the wood is worn and the table is an old factory pallet sometimes also described as a railway pallet - I think?. I'm definitely going for an industrial vintage theme using a monochromatic colour pallet of grey, lime wash and black. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWCywNXDDGprPkEPl31RYGuL_N7oPWav38soyRVP_0FnBaKtAzCM_9a8Zg75ATfjZesPZ9cTogc6Sex657zN-b-dp-rrzY_33NE058VipJB5x_acS0mKpc4CPEa7MkrTLm152ZPRjIVA/s1600/before+pic+a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWCywNXDDGprPkEPl31RYGuL_N7oPWav38soyRVP_0FnBaKtAzCM_9a8Zg75ATfjZesPZ9cTogc6Sex657zN-b-dp-rrzY_33NE058VipJB5x_acS0mKpc4CPEa7MkrTLm152ZPRjIVA/s1600/before+pic+a.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and this pic featured in <a href="http://homes.ninemsn.com.au/real-living/" target="_blank">Real Living Magazine</a> has been a great source of inspiration. I am loving the colour pallet used here and the patterned parquetry floor - thinking a chevron/striped patterned top for the table would be nice using wood stains. This way the wood is tinted with pattern but not completely covered in an opaque block out colour... the tripod will also be stained.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The recipe today is heavily influenced by <a href="http://instagram.com/wildelyraw">Wildy Raw</a> an amazing instagrammer committed to raw, low sugar and vegan sweets!.<br />
<br />
This is such a simple recipe that allows you to make truffle like chocolate vegan treats with pantry ingredients. Most of the ingredients I used were organic but the cocoa was unprocessed dutch cocoa not raw cacao... must get some raw cacao this week.<br />
<br />

<br />
Vegan Peanut and Cashew Butter Chocolates<br />
<br />
You will need:<br />
Coconut Oil<br />
Desiccated Coconut<br />
Maple Syrup<br />
Stevia<br />
Cocoa/ Raw Cacao<br />
Peanut Butter<br />
Raw Cashews (150g)<br />
Almond Milk<br />
Baking Paper<br />
<br />
1.Start by placing 1/2 cup of coconut oil and 1/2 cup cocoa in a bowl. If your coconut oil is quite solid you can melt it slightly before adding to cocoa so you can mix it well.<br />
2.Now add 1/4 cup maple syrup to the cocoa/coconut oil paste and a few drops of Stevia to sweeten. Taste and add another 1/8 cup maple syrup to suit your taste if it isn't sweet enough for you.<br />
3. Using a spatula spread the chocolate paste onto a sheet of baking paper to about 2-3mm thick and place in the freezer to set.<br />
4. While the base is setting make your cashew butter by placing your cashews in a mixer with 1-2 tsp of desiccated coconut and 1 tbs of almond milk and 1/2 tsp vanilla then blend and add a bit more almond milk to make a nice thick nut butter. Leave aside<br />
5. Once the chocolate base sets in the freezer (5-10 mins) take it out and spread the nut butters over as shown below... do this for the peanut butter and then make another disk of chocolate by mixing the above quantities (in step 1&2) set it in the freezer and spread the prepared cashew butter over.<br />
6. Now take the rest of your chocolate mix and gently heat it in the microwave (20 secs) or over a double boiler to a runnier consistency (like double cream) then smooth a layer over the nut butter and top with a light sprinkle of desiccated coconut. Freeze for 10-15 mins till set.<br />
7. Cut your chocolates into shapes using a cookie cutter or slices with knife and serve chilled. Store extras in the freezer.<br />

I love the way blogging inspires me to be more creative and over the years my home has definitely reaped the benefits of <a href="http://vintagemovement.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/how-to-make-diy-letterpress-art-at-home.html" target="_blank">DIY-ing</a>. I also love the challenge of taking something old and breathing new life into it, giving it a new purpose and having it look like it just left the workshop floor. So when I was invited to be a part of <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/consumer/get-inspired/re-love-project/" target="_blank">Feast Watson's 2014 Re-love Project</a> I was thinking you had me at "Dear Tina"!!. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The project runs for the next month and a half with the challenge of taking an old and unwanted item and re-loving it up to its future glory!. I've chosen to upcycle an old reclaimed factory pallet and a vintage tripod and my <a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/consumer/get-inspired/re-love-project/re-love-designers-2014/" target="_blank">fellow participants</a> have chosen fabulous items and I can't wait to see the fruits of their labour in the coming weeks!. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.feastwatson.com.au/" target="_blank">Feast Watson</a> will also be auctioning off the upcycled items with the proceeds going to the Salvos Stores commencing 24th of July - love it!.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTPDp2ilLnJ5IrDy9Wa0SWK-TndYAyUi38rgq1X_LmSrCCRuoVPjTYqBFlpLUN26GQSrR7keM6s1eqeEDaOC91gqhrvCux1vgbyrAu14w_24yalzCM44Cc0Z_JObpv7qYWj3yUFhd7FQ/s1600/fw+post.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTPDp2ilLnJ5IrDy9Wa0SWK-TndYAyUi38rgq1X_LmSrCCRuoVPjTYqBFlpLUN26GQSrR7keM6s1eqeEDaOC91gqhrvCux1vgbyrAu14w_24yalzCM44Cc0Z_JObpv7qYWj3yUFhd7FQ/s1600/fw+post.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So for me it's time to get creative... over the next week I'll be sharing my inspirations and ideas for my design and posting my journey and "how to" as the project progresses. I'm excited - wood finishes are a new endeavor as I'm usually a paint and go upcycler so this will be a fresh DIY challenge for me!. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.furnishburnish.com/diy/10-creative-coffee-table-alternatives/" target="_blank">This</a> image is definitely serving as inspiration at this early stage... I'm loving the Industrial Scandi aesthetic and the overall colour pallet of greys/white/black...mind ticking, more to come!.</div>

With the cooler months upon us here in Australia this delish <a href="http://www.jamieoliver.com/" target="_blank">Jamie Oliver</a> mix is sure to bring oodles of comfort this winter. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
FYI If it's warmer in your neighbourhood you can still enjoy this recipe as an iced drink by simply creating a smooth paste from your chocolate powder mix and adding chilled milk and ice cubes - yum!.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
For the mix</div>
<div>
2 Tbs Horlicks (or any malted milk)</div>
<div>
2 Tbs Cornflour (this adds the best texture to the mix!!)</div>
<div>
3 Tbs Icing Sugar (Powdered Sugar)</div>
<div>
4 Tbs Cocoa (I use Dutch Cocoa)</div>
<div>
100g Chocolate (70% cocoa solids) finely grated</div>
<div>
1 Pinch sea salt</div>
<div>
1 Pinch cinnamon</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Place in a bowl and whisk to combine the dry mix. Then place in a jar.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To make your hot chocolate </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Place 1 litre of milk in a saucepan and heat till almost boiling point. </div>
<div>
Add 10 heaped tablespoons of the mix and whisk to combine. </div>
<div>
Allow the mix to bubble, heat and thicken slightly (this will take a few minutes).</div>
<div>
Serve and enjoy!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
(*you could also add a very small pinch of chilli powder for a kick or some orange zest once you have made your mugs of hot chocolate, simply stir through the hot mix and serve immediately).</div>

I found this beauty online and while it's not the <a href="https://thefamilylovetree.com.au/_chairs/peacock-chairs/lady-peacock-chair-natural" target="_blank">super large ornate style</a> I had in mind it was a fab find and I'm thrilled to finally have one in my collection.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEUXbwyjjXmQcBf8JwdHWkcFPSOmXWAGrx7spd1sd1YtHa6bVgDBMK433AbReEp4oRrMtSdhgd503kXa7QFHWYozjA7GqOzH5iHXRu5FasQ5vsXXKbWNHXevuCbW8Nr0l0QDETsDxxFA/s1600/peacock+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEUXbwyjjXmQcBf8JwdHWkcFPSOmXWAGrx7spd1sd1YtHa6bVgDBMK433AbReEp4oRrMtSdhgd503kXa7QFHWYozjA7GqOzH5iHXRu5FasQ5vsXXKbWNHXevuCbW8Nr0l0QDETsDxxFA/s1600/peacock+3.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I love the natural cane look but I am also obsessed with painting anything and everything around my home so I decided to white wash this chair by simply watering down some water based white paint. I added just under equal parts paint to water, stirred it through and painted away... it gives a chalky, lime washed finish. I started by adding 1/4 cup water to 1/2 cup paint then gradually added water to achieve the look I was after.</div>

It was about $7 and has paid for itself ten fold!. I've been polka dotting everything from canvases to pot plants and this simple DIY demonstrates how to revamp a tired old or ugly pot into a super cute window sill feature.<br />

DIY Painted Pot</div>
*For outdoor use you will need to use outdoor paint to ensure your work is weatherproof.<br />
<br />
You will need:<br />
Drop sheet/ garbage bag to protect the floor from paint spills<br />
Stippling sponge set (available at craft stores) or a sponge cut to shape<br />
Paint in two different colours<br />
Paint brush<br />
<br />
1. Start by painting your pot/s with your base colour and leave to dry then paint a second coat. Make sure to paint the inner rim of the pot to a level that will meet the soil - about two inches down.<br />
2. When the second coat dries take your second colour and pour a small amount onto a dish then dip the sponge in the paint and press against the pot.<br />
3. To create the polka dot pattern you want to place your dots at even intervals starting at the top of the pot and working your way down in vertical rows.<br />
4. Leave to dry<br />
<br />
<br />
